Some Wonders of Indian Civilisation

It's a pity that some vested interests only show Taj Mahal as the ultimate in Indian architecture which is a great disservice to those aspiring to appreciate art and architecture without prejudices. I hope you enjoy by clicking the links below;

This blog is a work in progress so please bear with me.

The purpose of this blog is just to provoke thinking-challenge our own thinking with an open mind. I came to the UK in 1996 with the history I was taught about India in tact. Once I began research for my second book I paid a closer attention to some of the stereotypical facts about India in light of several programmes on Indian history.

Just to compare the standard of Indian History taught in Indian schools I bought a travel guide on India. It was shocking to see that the Indian History books written by the so called eminent historians do not even have the academic standing of a travel guide publisher on India.

The travel guide I am talking about is "Eyewitness Travel Guides" by Dorling Kindersley or DK which is part of Penguin and a major supplier of school texts in Britain.

I think every Indian who wants to learn more about India should buy a copy of the DK's Eye Witness Travel Guide on both India and Europe. It has pictorial details on many of the ancient Indian cities, the plan, photos, details of construction and scale legends and myths associated with it.

The drydocks of Lothal - carbon dated to 2500 BC- historical significance. The world's oldest known dry dock proves that Indians had knowledge of navigation and shipbuilding techniques at least 2000 years earlier than the Greeks. Please see the link below;

The Submerged City in Bay of Kambhat- The objects recovered from the site such as a stone slab with mysterious markings probably the earliest form of writing, the submerged city has streets, houses, staircases and temples and is carbon dated to circa 8000 BC. However many vested interests unlike DK and the link below do not want to recognise it as it will make them re-write the World History written for us by the victors. Please see the link below.

http://www.spiritofmaat.com/announce/oldcity.htm

The Ajantha & Ellora Temples- They still call it Cave Temples but the fact of the matter is unlike the pyramids it was carved from top to bottom where the sculptors chiselled through 85,000 cubic meters (about 3 million cubic feet and is believed to be built in 8 century AD. This temple complex is 81 meter by47 meter and does not deserve to be called a cave temple.

The Adilaj Vav- In Gujarat could be called a Step Well or could be called one of the finest pieces of architecture and sculptoring depending upon one's political correctness. Please see the link below. It was built around 1499 AD.

http://www.google.com/images?client=gmail&rls=gm&q=ADILAJ%20VAV&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1280&bih=873

Another Intricately Carved Step Well in Gujarat- Remember working on granite is much harder than working on marble- Please compare this to the best swimming pools or roman baths anywhere in the world.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/adityatva/2397366923/

The Brihadhishwara Temple-Built around 1000 AD this temple has an octoganal single piece granite weighing 80 tonnes atop the Vimanah at a height of 66 meters or about 217 ft. The Discovery Channel had a programme on this temple a few years ago- wondering how they managed to lift an 80 tonne object to a height of 217 ft without electricity or crane.

It is many things contained in the DK's Travel Guides on India which might have influenced the world's best brains to extol the relative merits of Indian civilisation and philosophy as illustrated in one of my earlier blogs. Please see the link below.

I tried to add the link for Belur-Halebeedu which is a UNESCO protected heritage but it is not working out. Anyone interested can search Belur-Halebeedu Google images to see the craftsmanship of the amazing architects, artisans and sculptors of this gem of a heritage.

There is more to add to this blog in due course.

Bill Gates Charity Letter of 2011 Unresolved Issues

I wished there were a section for people to comment on Bill Gates Letter for 2011! With all due respect to Bill Gates (He is an icon for humanity, a philosopher but with wealth, a thinker, an empathetic billionaire and above all a role model for humanity, a revolutionary of Gandhian/Martin Luther King proportions and above all a great human being and I pray God gives us more people like Bill Gates but these are my personal views on Bill Gates and I am not going allow my following views on his 2011 letter.

Therefore with great admiration I dare to criticise Bill Gates on the issues he raised up to the section (Miracles of Vaccines) in his letter as follows;

1. Gate's demand for more AID pledges from the rich countries whilst being an issue ignores the problem of under utilization of AID in many of the developing countries. For instance India is still hoarding about $20 billion in AID received and is paying millions in fines for that according to a report in the Indian media upon which I had responded through Twitter. Under utilization of AID is not a political or legislative issue but plain negligence. If AID recipients are responsible for under utilization of AID then AID givers too could be responsible for lack of monitoring and auditing in a double entry system of accounting. If stakeholder (shareholder) investment were to have been under utilized legitimated questions would have been raised in shareholder meetings.

2. The issues in paragraph 1 above if were left unaddressed could become serious speed breakers and road blocks to the Health & Prosperity goals Bill Gates speaks about. Many charities and foundations set up by visionary "do gooders" often hide under political and legislative reasons not to address the issues in paragraph 1 above. At this moment in time there is only one Bill Gates and the chances of humanity having another Bill Gates in the coming years is very bleak considering the global economic turmoil so what needs to be said has to be said.

3. There is no dispute on the intrinsic merits of increasing AID but only its effective use. Without giving country wide or country specific data I can say that there are charities in certain countries in the West who hoard $120 billion in their charitable foundations some of which could have been collected by showing heart wrenching pictures of poverty, famine, disasters, illiteracy, disease, natural disasters affecting both humans and animals. The humanity expects from Bill Gates to run a charity which is different from all other charities in its reach and healing instead of following the templates of existing charities which were once set up by great humanitarians like Bill Gates himself but in a different decade and age. Institutions do suffer from value erosion like individuals and unless this is dealt with goals will remain as goals either unaccomplished or part accomplished. Eradication of polio and eradication of the depreciation in charity goals therefore assume equal importance. It is conceded the Bill Gates foundation may not be able to indulge in direct political or legislative action where their humanitarian activities in developing countries could be frustrated through such interference or involvement as the case may be. But Bill and Melinda Foundation could not have been banned from funding researches in to such issues. In Kerala, India where I grew up we have saying roughly translated in to English means, "There is no hope for a farmer when even the fence starts eating the crops", "There is no point in filling a leaking pot with water".

4. Bill Gates for me is a philosopher because he knew the intrinsic worth of giving. In Hinduism it is called renunciation. There were Maharajas and emperors in India before Christ like Parikshit, Chandra Gupta and Ashoka who even gave up their Kingdoms to embrace sanyasa or renunciation of all their wealth believing that humanity would follow their path in sorting out human problems. It unfortunately did not happen. Renunciation of these great men became an opportunity for opportunistic men who succeeded them and nothing happened. Humanity was back to square one.

5. I reserve my comments about the Polio Campaign in the USA to another paragraph below

6. It is still a pity that India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan have Polio cases. Could it be due to the issues raised in paragraph 1 to 5 above is left to the deliberation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation ("the Foundation")

7. It is wrong to state that people need to be more charitable in an age of charitable excess where no body has a proper figure on the charity lavished on humanity in the past five to six decades involving trillions of dollars more than the founding capital of the Foundation. Yet diseases, poverty, homelessness all come back to haunt us. In the Holy Bible there is the parable of "Widow's Mite" everyone contributed but poverty, disease, homelessness are all still there on our tree screens as if nothing had happened before to sort out these issues. Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Poverty is the Worst Form of Violence" and it is so true even today despite trillions of dollars of over funding of charities. The $720 million short fall for polio eradication projected by the Foundation ought to be seen in this context.

8. It is up to the Foundation to evaluate whether its noble goals of prevention of death and disability due to Polio incidence the four countries are being hampered in any way due to the issues raised in paragraph 1 to 7 above considering the fact that only 1% of the infected develop disability and/or progress to death whilst they can infect others. Eradication of polio is not a quick fix but a sure fix that humanity deserves and the humanity of faceless and voiceless millions are looking up to the Foundation to do something different from the renunciation and charitable empathetic giving that has been going on for centuries. Please also refer to paragraph 4 and 7 above.

9. There cannot be any dispute against the projections of a $50 billion saving from Polio eradication alone but the billion dollar question is what could be the cumulative saving for humanity from solving preventable diseases, deaths, homelessness, joblessness, accidents, negligent health care etc. There are no projections of these eventualities in Bill Gates' letters.

10. The "Resolve and Courage" of leadership in prevention and eradication of Polio referred to in Bill Gates Letter for 2011 is also relevant to the purposes of paragraph 1 to 9 above. The marchers in the "March of Dimes" some 50 years ago in the USA that Bill Gates witnessed had such lofty ideals although they were not as wealthy as Bill Gates or Warren Buffet. In that spirit of "March of Dimes" the citizens of the USA might have donated trillions of dollars in philanthropy to "Save the World/Humanity" and their disadvantaged brethren but it all disappeared in to a vacuum of underperformance and diminishing returns as evidenced by the charity collections going on today. Charity ought to be a stop gap arrangement and not an ad infinitum business venture of charity dependence to save the charities from extinction like the dinosaurs.

11. Humanity and humility as enunciated in Bill Gates' 2011 letter does not mean fatalism even for charitable purposes and the philosophy is the need of the hour. The reduction of Polio spastics of 741 to 41 and 388 to 41 for Nigeria and India whilst being impressive if such a comparative study/auditing is done for the impact of other preventable diseases including those caused through lack of information, awareness, negligence, professional negligence...........then perhaps this world could become a paradise. I know it is naive to think in these lines but you thought in these lines when you dropped out Harvard and presented before the world the "Microsoft"- micro but soft windows for all of us to interact with our brothers and sisters in the wider world. There were days when I wished I were born as your gardener/driver/dustman...............but destiny made me a lawyer with dual qualifications with a heart that can identify with people from my backgrounds.

12. Your points about significant and co-ordinate leadership and resourcefulness I believe could be relevant to paragraphs 1 to 11 above.

13. Your emphasis on empathetic efficiency is the need of the hour and the humanity expects from one of its heroes to deliver the entire hero is spending his own resources for the benefit of the humanity!!! In Kerala, India where I come from even the beggars toss back miniscule alms as it is so insulting to them. I have been a victim of that several times in 2005 when I was with my mother during a vacation from the UK from July to October 2005. I remember watching Bill Gates on NDTV in the company of Narain Murthy of Infosys advising the audience before him besides his global Indian audience, "The World Depends on the USA Getting Certain Things Right" now it is up to Bill Gates to consider whether it is relevant for the humanity to expect certain things for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation getting right or are they going to be another Rockefeller and Carnegie Foundations, Oxfams, Green Peaces and millions of other charities who simply trade poverty porn to get donations!!!

How the World's Best Brains Described India Whilst the Modern Oxbridge Injected Contempt for India Aided by the BBC?

A reader of my blog a while ago forwarded to me the following commentary on Indian Civilisation and Heritage by a galaxy of the best brains in the world. The Copy right for these quotations belongs to my friend as I am only a reflector. Before these great men Darwin, Marx and Hawking's and their "apostles", "devotees", "believers", "followers" and "fans" foisted by the modern Oxbridge and the BBC are mere puny mediocre intellectual fraudsters deceiving history and humanity as a whole!!!

Please see below to appreciate what I am speaking about;

T. S. Eliot - great American poet, -philosopher, critic

Indian philosophers’ subtleties make most of the great European philosophers look like schoolboys.

François M Voltaire - (1694-1774) - France’s greatest writers and philosopher

I am convinced that everything has come down to us from the banks of the ganga — astronomy, astrology, spiritualism, etc. it is very important to note that some 2,500 years ago at the least Pythagoras went from Samos to the ganga to learn geometry...but he

would certainly not have undertaken such a strange journey had the reputation of the Brahmins’ science not been long established in Europe...

Mark Twain - (1835-1910) American humorist, satirist, lecturer and writer

India is the land of religions, cradle of human race, birthplace of human speech,

grandmother of legend, great grandmother of tradition. The land that men with

intellectual bent desire to see and having seen once even by a glimpse, would not give

that glimpse for the shows of the rest of the globe combined.

Ralph Waldo Emerson - (1803-1882) great - American author, essayist, - lecturer, Unitarian minister

The Vedas taught me. in them I have found eternal compensation, unfathomable power, and unbroken peace.

Julius R Oppenheimer (1904-1967) one of the world’s greatest physicists, known as ‘the father of the atomic bomb’

Access to the Vedas is the greatest privilege this century may claim over all previous centuries.

The Gita, the most beautiful philosophical song existing in any known tongue.

Albert Einstein - one of the greatest scientists, philosopher, received Nobel Prize for his ‘theory of relativity’.

We owe a lot to Indians who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have ever been made.

Johann Gottfried Herder (1744-1803), - great German philosopher, poet and critic

Mankind’s origins can be traced to India, where the human mind

got the first shapes of wisdom and virtue with a simplicity, strength and sublimity which has - frankly spoken - nothing, nothing at all equivalent in our philosophical, cold European world.

The Veda was the most precious gift for which the west had ever been

indebted to the east

Friedrich Hegel - (1770-1831), great German philosopher

It strikes everyone in beginning to form an acquaintance with the treasures of Indian

literature, that a land so rich in intellectual products and those of the profoundest order of thought... India has created a special momentum in world history as a country to be searched for knowledge.

India has created a special momentum in world history as a country to be searched for knowledge.

George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) great dramatist, Nobel laureate in literature

The Indian way of life provides the vision of the natural, real way of life. We western veil ourselves with unnatural masks. On the face of India are the tender expressions which carry the mark of the creator’s hand.

Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860), one of the greatest German philosopher and writer

In the whole world there is no study so beneficial and so elevating as that of the

Upanishads. It has been the solace of my life; and it will be the solace of my death. They are the product of the highest wisdom.

Frederic von Schlegel (1772-1829), German writer, critic philosopher, philologist, the most prominent founder of German romanticism

There is no language in the world, even Greek, which has the clarity and the

Philosophical precision of Sanskrit and this great India is not only at the origin of everything she is superior in everything, intellectually, religiously or politically and even the Greek heritage seems pale in comparison.

The ancient Indians possessed knowledge of the true god; conceived and expressed in noble, clear and grand language…even the loftiest philosophy of the Europeans, the idealization of reason, as set forth by the Greeks, appears in comparison with the abundant light and vigor of oriental idealism, like a feeble spark in the full flood of the noonday sun.

Everything without exception is of Indian origin. Whether directly or indirectly, all nations are originally nothing but Indian colonies.

Alfred North Whitehead (1861-1947) British philosopher, mathematician best known for his work in mathematical logic and the philosophy

The vastest knowledge of today cannot transcend the buddhi (intellect) of the rishis (saints) in ancient India; and science, in its most advanced stage now, is closer to Vedanta than ever before.

Fritjof Capra physicist and systems theorist, a founding director of the center for ecoliteracy, USA

To the Indian rishis the divine play was the evolution of the cosmos through countless aeons. There is an infinite number of creations in an infinite universe. The rishis gave the name Kalpa to the unimaginable span of time between the beginning and the end of

creation. (One Kalpa is about 4,320,000 years).

The scale of this ancient myth is indeed staggering; it has taken the human mind more than two thousand years to come up again with a similar concept.

H. G. wells (1866-1946), English prolific writer and philosopher

This makes Hinduism the most tolerant religion in the world, because its one transcendent god includes all possible gods. In fact Hinduism is so elastic and so subtle that the most profound Methodist, and crudest idolater, are equally at home with it.

Hinduism is synonymous with humanism.

That is its essence and its great liberating quality.

There is space in its philosophy for everyone, which is one reason

Why India is a home

to every single religion in the world.

Herman Hesse (1877-1962) German poet and novelist, awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1946

The marvel of the Gita is its truly beautiful revelation of life’s wisdom which enables philosophy to blossom into religion.

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), great American philosopher, writer, Unitarian, social critic, transcendentalist

In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous and cosmogonal philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita in comparison with which our modern world and its literature seems puny and trivial.

What extracts from the Vedas I have read fall on me like the light of

A higher and purer luminary, which describes a loftier course through

purer stratum. It rises on me like the full moon after the stars have come out,

wading through some far stratum in the sky.

Whenever I have read any part of the Vedas, I have felt that some

unearthly and unknown light illuminated me. in the great teaching of

The Vedas, there is no touch of

sectarianism. It is of all ages, climes and nationalities and is

the royal road for the

attainment of the great knowledge. When I am at it, I feel

That I am under the spangled

Heavens of a summer night.

Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) English novelist and critic and philosopher

Hinduism, the perennial philosophy that is at the core of all religions.

Lord Curzon (1859-1925) British statesman, viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905, and later became chancellor of ‘Oxford University’

India has left a deeper mark upon the history, the philosophy, and the religion of mankind, than any other terrestrial unit in the universe.

Romaine Rolland (1866-1944) a great French writer, dramatist, critics, historian, Nobel laureate

Religious faith in the case of the Hinduism has never been allowed to run counter to scientific laws, moreover the former is

never made a condition for the knowledge they

teach, but there are always scrupulously careful to take into consideration the possibility

that by reason both the agnostic and atheist may

attain truth in their own way.

William Butler Yeats (1856-1939) Irish poet, dramatist, and essayist and Nobel laureate

It was only my first meeting with the Indian philosophy that confirmed my vague

speculations and seemed at once logical and boundless.

Paul William Roberts, professor at oxford, award-winning television writer, producer, journalist, critic and novelist

The Vedas still represent eternal truth in the purest form ever written.

and they are what drew me to India in the first place, what kept me there,

and what draws me back still.

Jean-Sylvain Bailly great French astronomer who calculated the orbit for the Hailey’s comet

The Hindu systems of astronomy are by far the oldest and that from which the Egyptians, Greek, Romans and - even the Jews derived from the Hindus their knowledge.

the motion of the stars calculated by the Hindus before some 4500 years vary not even a single minute from the tables of Cassini and Meyer (used in the18th century).

Mark Tully former BBC correspondent in India, author

But I do profoundly believe that India needs to be able to say with pride, ‘yes, our civilization has a Hindu base to it.

Pierre Simon de Laplace (1749-1827) French mathematician, philosopher, and astronomer, a contemporary of napoleon, best known for his nebular hypothesis of the origin of the solar system

it is India that gave us the ingenious method of expressing all numbers by ten symbols, each receiving a value of position as well as an absolute value, a profound and important idea which appears so simple to us now that we ignore its true merit.

Brian David Josephson - (1940 - ) welsh physicist, the youngest Nobel laureate

The Vedanta and the Sankhya hold the key to the laws of mind and

thought process which is co-related to the quantum field, i.e. the operation and distribution of particles at atomic and molecular levels.

August Wilhelm von Schlegel (1767-1845) a German scholar, poet, critic

Even the loftiest philosophy of the Europeans appears like a

feeble spark before the Vedanta.

A. E. George Russell (1867 - 1935) poet, artist, and mystic, a leading figure in the Irish

literary renaissance of the late 19th and early 20th centuries

The Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads contain such god-like fullness of wisdom on all things that I feel the authors must have looked with calm remembrance back through a thousand passionate lives, full of feverish strife for and with shadows, ere they could

have written with such certainty of things which the soul feels to be sure.

Alexander M. Kadakin - former Russian ambassador in India

India seems to be specially designed by the god to defy all prognoses and theories. My heart remains here but all my India will travel back along with me, needing no extra

space in the plane. and new ones will appear when I return.

Charles H. Townes (1925-), American, Nobel prize-winning, worked extensively during

World War II in designing radar bombing systems, invented the microwave-emitting

Indian students should value their religious culture and of course, the classical Indian culture bears importantly on the meaning of life and values. I would not separate the two. To separate science and Indian culture would be harmful. …I don't think it is

practical to keep scientific and spiritual culture separate.

Alan Watts (1915-1973) English philosopher, prolific writer

to the philosophers of India, however, ‘relativity’ is no new discovery, just as the concept of light years is no matter for astonishment to people used to thinking of time in millions of kalpas, (one kalpa is about 4,320,000 years).

John Archibald Wheeler (1911 - 2008) American physicist, the first involved in the

theoretical development of the atomic bomb and first to coin the ‘black hole’ who later

occupies the chair that was held by Einstein

I like to think that someone will trace how the deepest thinking of India

made its way to Greece and from there to the philosophy of our times.

It is curious that people like Schrödinger, Niels Bohr, and Oppenheimer were

Upanishad scholars.

Lin Yutang (1895-1976) great Chinese scholar, prolific writer

India was china’s teacher in religion and imaginative literature,

and the world’s teacher in trigonometry, quadratic

Equations, grammar, phonetics, Arabian nights, animal

Fables, chess, as well as in philosophy, and that she

inspired Boccaccio, Goethe, herder,

Schopenhauer, Emerson, and probably also old Aesop.

Erwin Schrödinger (1887--1961) Austrian physicist awarded Nobel Prize for his

invention of wave mechanics

This life of yours which you are living is not merely a piece of

This entire existence, but in a certain sense the whole; only this whole is not so

constituted that it can be surveyed in one single glance.

This, as we know, is what the Brahmins express in

that sacred, mystic formula which is yet really so simple and so clear;

‘tat tvam asi ’, this is you. or,

again, in such words as “I am in the east and the west,

I am above and below, I am this entire world.

Queen Fredericka of Greece, wife of king Paul of Greece

I envy the Indians.

while Greece is the country of my birth,

India is the country of my soul.

Pierre Sonnerat (1748 - 1814) French naturalist and author

Ancient India gave to the world its religions and

philosophies. Egypt and Greece owe India their wisdom and it is known that Pythagoras went to India to study

under Brahmins, who were the most enlightened of

human beings.

Wilhelm von Humboldt - (1767- 1835) Prussian minister of education, a brilliant linguist

and the founder of the science of general linguistics

the Gita, the most beautiful, perhaps the only true

philosophical song existing in any

known tongue.... perhaps the deepest and loftiest

thing the world has to show.

Lord Warren Hastings (1754-1826), the first governor general of British India

I do not hesitate to pronounce the Gita a performance of great originality, of sublimity of

conception, reasoning and diction almost unequalled; and a single exception, amongst

all the known religions of mankind.

Andrew Tomas (1906- 2001) an Australian UFO pioneer, author of several physics,

Astronomy and spiritual books

the atomic structure of matter is mentioned in the

Hindu treatises vaisesika and nyaya.

The yoga Vasishta says: ----- there are vast worlds

within the hollows of each atom,

multifarious as the specks in a sunbeam -----

which we have assumed now as true.

Juan Mascaro (1897 - 1987) taught at Oxford University

the greatness of the Bhagavad Gita is the greatness of the universe, but even as the wonder of the stars in heaven only reveals itself in the silence of the night, the wonder of

This poem only reveals itself in the silence of the soul.

Hun Shih (1891-1962), Chinese philosopher and author

Never before had china seen a religion so rich in imagery, so beautiful and captivating

in ritualism and so bold in cosmological and metaphysical speculations. She begged and

borrowed them all freely from this munificent Indians. China’s indebtedness to India can

never be fully told.

Dr. Carl Sagan (1934-1996) most famous modern astrophysicist

The Hinduism is the only one of the world’s greatest faiths dedicated to the idea that the

cosmos itself undergoes an immense, indeed an infinite, number of deaths and rebirths.

It is the only religion in which the time scales correspond, to those of modern scientific

Cosmology.

C E M Joad (1891-1953) British philosopher, author, teacher

The thought of the Upanishads is bold

and free, and their general conclusion is that mystical experience

is the pathway to reality?

Count Hermann Keyserling (1880-1946) great Estonian philosopher, first to conceive

and promote a planetary culture, founder of the school of wisdom

India has produced the profoundest metaphysics that we can hardly imagine of.

Victor Cousin (1792-1867) great French philosopher

When we read with attention the poetical and philosophical monuments of India, we

discover there are endless truths, and truths so profound, and which make such a

contrast with the meanness of the results at which European genius has sometimes

stopped, that we are constrained to bend the knee before the philosophy of the east, and

to see in this cradle of the human race the native land of the highest philosophy.

Annie Wood Besant (1847-1933) a great writer, socialist, George Bernard Shaw

regarded her as the ‘greatest woman public speaker of her time’

after a study of some forty years and more of the great religions of the world, I find

none so perfect, none so scientific, none so philosophical and none so spiritual than the

great religion known by the name of Hinduism.

India is the mother of all religions. in her are combined science and religion in perfect

harmony, and it is India that shall be again the spiritual mother of the world.

Dr. Arnold Joseph Toynbee (1889-1975) great British historian. His massive research

was published in 12 volumes between 1934 and 1961 titled as `a study of history’

at this supremely dangerous moment in human history, the only way of salvation is the

ancient Hindu way. Here we have the attitude and spirit that can make it possible for

The human race to grow together in to a single family.

Count Maurice Maeterlinck (1862-1949) a great Belgian writer and Nobel laureate

have we not here the whole of Darwinian evolution confirmed by geology and foreseen

at least 6,000 years ago? On the other hand, is this not the theory of? Akasa which we

more clumsily call the ether, the sole source of all substances, to which our science is

returning? But the scientific ether is not precisely the Hindu Akasa which is much more

subtle and immaterial being a sort of spiritual element or divine energy, space

uncreated, imperishable, and infinite.

David Bohm American, one of the world’s greatest quantum mechanical physicists and

philosopher

One would say atman is more like the meaning. but then what is meant would be

Brahman, I suppose; the identity of consciousness and cosmos....this claims that the

meaning and what is meant are ultimately one, which is the phrase atman equals

Brahman of classical Hindu philosophy.

Latin, English and Sanskrit Besides Sub Prime History Written By the Victors

Latin, English and Sanskrit Besides Sub Prime History Written By the Victors

I think it is wrong to hide the influence of Sanskrit on English, Latin and other Indo-European languages. Kalidaasa’s Shakunthalam and Goethe’s Sakontala may not be that different after all. The Vedas, Puranas, Itihaasas, Upanishad’s and the Five Books of Moses and the Old Testament and the New Testament may not be that dissimilar either.

From these premises I believe learning Sanskrit is eminently more sensible than learning Latin. Many people blindly believe Greek and Latin alone is responsible for the English etymology. This belief could be due to the fact that in English dictionaries the etymology of most English words is shown as Greek & Latin or French & German. The Sanskrit connection is often ignored or sidelined either due to ignorance, bigotry, intellectual racism or all of them. Some others can't even make the connection between English and the rest of the Indo-European family of languages although it is the largest language family in the world spoken by the largest number of people in Asia and Europe even according to several Encyclopedias.

In a world of ideological divide and academic expediency what is forgotten are the true connections between the Indo-European languages. It is believed that the Silk Road has been in existence for about 4500 years or so connecting Europe with Asia which in a sense laid the foundations of the modern world as we know it.

For some the Silk Road unfortunately was a mere " spice road/curry trade route" involving some spices like cloves, cinnamon, pepper, turmeric or a luxury trade involving silk, sahutosh, pashmina, cashmere, diamonds, pearls, saphron, precious stones etc! Was it also a “Skills Road as it was in Asia that most of humanity’s first innovations happened? The Silk Road/Silk Route or whatever that infrastructure is called allowed Europe to learn about the religions like Hinduism (the oldest of major religions), Judaism, Budhism, Jainism, Christianity, and Islam which all originated in Asia. Jesus Christ was a rebel Jewish Rabbi born in Asia (Israel/Palestine) and whether he has had blonde hair or not is not the issue the issue is about the assimilation of languages, cultures, philosophies, science between the the two continents.

Please bear in mind how the European colonialists rewrote the history of humanity since the early 1700s to this day using their techonological and economic advantage in the form of printing presses, industrial revolution, typewritters to the computer. Until 1700 AD both India and China together had a global GDP share of 70% which in India's case shrunk to 0.8% by 1991 and China's to less than India's in 1947. Please keep in mind the denigration inflicted on both India and China by the European print and television media using both the so called experts from Europe in tandem with the hired Indian and Chinese experts. The typical Indian and Chinese pictures of 1990s that of the cyclists on Chinese roads or that of the Hindu monks in bathing ghats in Varanasi or that of snake charmers to name a few were all part of a pattern like a pattern of dictatorships and dynastic rulers in the developing world mostly educated in British universities like in the case of the Indira-Nehru dynasty of India, the Bhuttos of Pakistan, the Husseins and Azads of Jordan and Syria. Ever wondered why all the Indian born Booker Prize Winners are all staunch British supporters, Hindu haters and Islamic sympathisers! Ever wondered why Khalid Muhammed Sheik the architect of September 11 terrorist attacks on New York was educated in London School of Economics? The London School of Economics is hotbed of Islamic terrorism according to several reports by UK Sunday Times!

In its hey day the British establishment through their charitable, human rights and other organisations were the chief brand ambassadors, benefactors and alibi makers for the Kasmiri and Sikh militants. One should also take note why only the Taj Mahal is shown and celebrated as the only architectural marvel whilst there are thousands of Indian temples and palaces some of which beat Taj Mahal in its aesthetic and architectural fete. The key to creating Divide and Rule whether in a family or a nation is by favouring one against the other without which no one can create Divide and Rule. Please also appreciate why the Western Europeans who derisively call the Eastern Europeans have no qualms in claiming that the foundation of Western Civilisation was laid by Greece which is easterly of even Eastern Europe. Another case in point of this historical, cultural, linguistic, civilisational denigration through distortion and misrepresentation is the name given to South Asians in Britain. South Asians from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh are called "Asians" whilst Japan, South Korea, Israel, China, Saudi Arabia and in short all the major forex buyers are in Asia. The finest example of the European colonial mindset is the British Monarch annointing British and pliable foreign nationals as Lords, Knights, Commanders, Officers and Dames of the Empire. The British leftists like leftists everywhere are anti heritage like the Islamic fundamentalists as evidenced by Mao's Cultural Revolution, Stalin's Russification, the blowing up of the Bamiyan Buddha in Afghanistan by the Taliban. The British charity industry works in tandem with the foreign office controlled BBC and the British education industry. Sorry for going on about this context whilst the theme of this blog is about looking at how English borrowed so heavily from Sanksrit. If "Nein" in German is the English equivalent of "No" and Jagnath is good for juggernaut many of the Sanskrit words in this blog do qualify for this etymological study.

I therefore believe that there is more connection between Sanskrit, Latin and English than projected by vested interests and the historians of the victors as Latin is also an Indo-European language. I am not an expert in Latin (my Latin learning confined to mere botanical and zoological names plus legal terms etc). However I believe it is order to give the similarities between English and Sanskrit (Some Sanskrit words are difficult to be spelt in English as the former has 48 letters whilst the latter has only 26. The differences in the pronunciation of “C”, “kicking Ka” “Curly Ka” “J” and “G” in English may be an issue for some. Sanskrit is not a simplistic or simpleton’s alphabet with only vowels and consonants but has vowels and consonants with complex Gutturals, Palatals, Cerebrals, Dentals, Labials, Sibilants and Aspirates. Please also do appreciate that most of the words given in this blog are based on the starting sound of the words represented by the respective Sanskrit and English alphabets. It is believed that to have a normal conversation or writing letters one needs only a five hundred word strong vocabulary assuming grammar, pronunciation etc are properly used. Simply because the modern numerals looks like Arabic numerals there was no need to sever the connection between the Sanskrit numerals and Arabic numerals either as there was no historical or scientific reason to do so except when history and study of languages is subservient to colonial bigotry. I will try to give my best shot to compare English and Sanskrit as below;

(160 English words or words known to English speakers above is only a sample and not a word by word etymological research on English, Greek, Latin and other Indo-European languages and Sanskrit. The names of gods and goddess pirated by the Greeks and Romans from Sanskrit counterparts are not reproduced here as they are older than both the Greek and Roman gods even if Sir William Jones' theory of Aryan Invasion of India in 1500 BC is to be accepted as the Gospel truth as they predate Homer and Pythogoras by atleast seven centuries. Furthermore, Shiva the Indian god has about 1000 synonyms whilst Zeus the puny God of the Greeks is caught out by the trail of gods of similar names from India upto Greece via Eastern Europe including through Poland even according to a dictionary of Mythology by J A Coleman (a British military guy turned historian of selective mythology) Anyone like Frederic von Schlegel with the ability to think freely from Germany but not under a compulsion to perpetuate the British empire in India on the orders of their London Head Quarters like Sir William Jones the author of the Aryan Theory could be more closer to the truth as the Aryans after they took their so called Sanskrit language from Central Asia to India did not write any books of a remotely intellectual calibre as that of the Mahabharata, Ramayana, Shakunthalam are all pointers for researchers to bury Sir William Jones for good unless they want to play the Divide & Rule politics of subservience under the cover of their so called historical research which resembles their sub prime research on modern economics of credit crunch!!! Please appreciate my logic as reflected by Federic von Schlegel as below or see the list of great men who support my theory against Sir William Jones/ the BBC/the Indian Booker Prize winners by having a look at my blog "What the world's best brains said about ancient India"

Whether directly or indirectly, all nations are originally nothing but Indian colonies")

INDIAN AND WESTERN CALENDARS - The names of the Fifteen Moon Days - (the English meaning of the Sanskrit words in column one are given in brackets for comparisons)

THE NUMBER OF DAYS IN EACH MONTH UNDER THE INDIAN CALENDAR SO DIFFERENT FROM WESTERN CALENDARS WHERE BOTH JULIUS AND AUGUSTUS WERE GIVEN 31 DAYS EACH TO TITTILLATE THEIR PUNY MEMORIES TO UNDERMINE FEBRUARY TO 28 AND 29 DAYS. INDIAN CALENDARS DID NOT PROPITIATE SUCH PUNY/MEDIOCRE/ PLEBIAN EGO WORSHIP IS EVIDENT FROM THE NUMBER OF DAYS CHARTED BELOW!!!

THE HINDU AND WESTERN CALENDARS THE DAYS (The Bracketed Meanings in the First Column Represent the Literal Translation of Each Days- The copyright of Wikipedia is acknowledged for the section immediately below)

Vaasara refers to the days of the week and bear striking similarities with the names of the week in many western cultures:

THE INDIAN AND WESTERN STAR SIGNS FOR THE NEOPHYTE IN CLASSICAL STUDIES SANS BOUNDARIES OR PREJUDICES

The ecliptic is divided into 73625252 nakshatras, which are variously called lunar houses or asterisms. These reflect the moon's cycle against the fixed stars, 27 days and 7¾ hours, the fractional part being compensated by an intercalary 28th nakshatra. Nakshatra computation appears to have been well known at the time of the Rig Veda (2nd–1st millennium BCE).

The ecliptic is divided into the nakshatras eastwards starting from a reference point which is traditionally a point on the ecliptic directly opposite the star Spica called Chitrā in Sanskrit. (Other slightly different definitions exist.) It is called Meshādi or the "start of Aries"; this is when the equinox — where the ecliptic meets the equator — was in Aries (today it is in Pisces, 28 degrees before Aries starts). The difference between Meshādi and the present equinox is known as ayanāngsha or fraction of ecliptic. Given the 25,800 year cycle for the precession of the equinoxes, the equinox was directly opposite Spica in 285 CE, around the date of the Surya Siddhanta.[1][2]

The nakshatras with their corresponding regions of sky are given below, following Basham.[3] As always, there are many versions with minor differences. The names on the right-hand column give roughly the correspondence of the nakshatras to modern names of stars. Note that nakshatras are (in this context) not just single stars but are segments on the ecliptic characterised by one or more stars. Hence there are more than one star mentioned for each nakshatra.

An additional 28th intercalary nakshatra, Abhijit (अभिजित्)(α, ε and ζ Lyrae - Vega - between Uttarasharha and Sravana. Last two (third and fourth) Padas of Uttrashada and first two (first and second) Padas of Sravana are considered to be Abhijit. Unless specifically mentioned it is not included in the list of the 27 constellations.

The nakshatra in which the moon lies at the time of sunrise of a day is the nakshatra for the day's therefore obvious to an intelligent but independent mind that who copied whom in this saga!!! Was it the Aryans who came to India but did not bother to create anything literary of the magnitude of the Indians despite their superiority or the Greeks or the Romans or the Egyptians. The biggest question is who pirated whom to jump the historical and civilisational league tables?

Whilst history including history of languages written by victors may be titillating it creates complacency and complacency self delusion and defeat for the victims of such plagiarized history. This I believe is the philosophy behind the saying, “Pride Goes before a Fall”. The English dictionaries are teaching the children of the English speaking world a wrong etymology to suit their political ideology and are hurting their children in the long run whilst the sycophant historians are profiting and amassing awards, citations and recognition! The proof of the pudding is in the eating as in the spelling competitions done in the USA/UK where the native children are lagging behind the children from the Indian and Chinese families in both the USA and the UK.

If western soldiers are constantly taught that no body conquered Afghanistan and Russia they would grow up as soldiers, commanders and Defense Secretaries to believe it as a gospel truth. Of course Russia was conquered by the Huns, Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan; the Japanese just like the Romans and Greeks conquered “all of the entire known world”. Afghanistan was conquered by at least two Indian emperors Chandragupta Maurya and Ashoka/Asoka besides the Huns and the Khans above. Alexander never conquered India and his so called benevolence of giving India back to the Indians as Lord Macaulay taught the Indians was simply to pump down Indian accomplishments and achievements to pump up British accomplishments through their western counterparts.

As regards the relative wealths of the Greeks with their olives, Egyptian with their cotton, babylons with their almonds, Romans with their grapes the best measurement is their relative trade baskets compared to ancient India. As regards their religions, gods, goddesses the relative religious scriptures they have and worhsips paractised today in these countries would testify the depth of their religions. Hinduism and Judaism withstood the invasions, oppressions, progroms, prosyletisation of the foreigners. What more the scriptures and srutis of the Jews and the Hindus and their temples/synagogues are still venerated by their devotees. What about the Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Babylonians, Aztecs, Arabs etc? The true test of a religion is its deep rooted existence and not a fad which could have been copied from anywhere. Simply because the IPad is made in China today does not mean that the idea for the IPad originated in China. It may or may not have.

If ancient Indians could take Hinduism up to Sumatra and Malaka and built temples there they could have designed even the Egyptian pyramids. If Indians could have built Anghor Vatt in Cambodia and abandoned it for the French to discover it in the 18th century they could have travelled to Egypt. It is relevant to re-appraise the full impact of the musings of Strabos the Greek geographer who claimed that one ship sailed from India to Greece & Rome via Alexandria in the first century AD. The Romans were losing about 1% of their GDP to the luxury goods from India around that time.

This list of words above however is not an exhaustive list of all Sanskrit words similar to English but only teaser to prod others to investigate further. This sort of literary, religious, civilization, scientific connections between India and Europe could be the reason why some of the best brains in the world like Oppenheimer, Wheeler, Bailey, Voltaire, Mark Twain, Von Schlegel, Elliot, Heisenberg, Schopenhauer from diverse fields such as Physics to Literature and Philosophy eulogized and revered the ancient Indian Heritage. Sir William Jones (the author of the Aryan theory) a British colonial judge like Lord Macaulay (colonial educationalist in India) is definitely not in the league of these great men. For more information on this see my blog- What the Best Brains Said About Ancient Indian Heritage” by clicking the link below;

http://myblogsmymusings.blogspot.com/2011/03/how-worlds-best-brains-described-india.html

If you highlight the above link and then right click your mouse and then click on "search google for" the above link would be visible which would corroborate my what I have been saying above. I hope if one adopts an open mind to read through this post one can see the intellectual piracy of the Greeks (with their olives), Romans (with their wine), Egyptians (with their cotton), Babylonians (with their almonds/pistaccio) against the trade basket of India with diamonds, pearls, saffron, dhaka muslin, pashmina, spices, ivory which would still exceed the trade baskets of all these other countries in value terms!!! As said earlier the Romans were losing 1% of their GDP to their import of Indian luxury items had to pay the Indians in gold as the legal tender in an ancient barter scheme and even today India has the largest reserve of gold at 15,000 tons out of the 140,000 tons so far mined globally in their homes much maligned slums!!!
